What Happens After Your Home Goes Live? What Your Realtor Should Be Doing Behind the Scenes
Once your home goes live on the market, the work doesn’t stop—it actually picks up. As a Realtor, I believe my job is to stay actively involved from the moment your listing launches until the day we close. Putting a property on the MLS is only one part of the process. After your home is live, I’m monitoring listing activity, making sure your marketing is reaching the right buyers, communicating with other agents, and watching for early signs of how the market is responding. The first few days can be especially important because they often give us valuable information about buyer interest and whether our pricing and presentation are generating the response we expected.
You should also expect regular communication from your agent. I want my sellers to know what is happening with their home rather than wondering whether there has been any activity. That can include updates on showings, open houses, buyer feedback, online engagement, and conversations with other agents. If buyers consistently mention the same concern—whether it’s price, condition, layout, or something else—I’ll bring that information to you so we can decide whether any adjustments make sense. My goal isn’t simply to report activity; it’s to help you understand what that activity means and make informed decisions throughout the sale.
Behind the scenes, there is also a lot happening that sellers may not see. I’m following up with agents who show the property, promoting the listing when appropriate, coordinating showings and open houses, and making sure your home continues to receive attention after the initial launch. If interest is strong, we may need to manage multiple offers and help you evaluate the terms—not just the purchase price. If activity is slower than expected, we’ll look at the data and determine whether we need to adjust our strategy. Every home and market is different, so I believe your marketing plan should be flexible enough to respond to what buyers are actually telling us.
Most importantly, you should expect your Realtor to be your advocate and strategic partner throughout the process. Selling a home can bring plenty of questions, and you shouldn’t feel like you have to figure everything out on your own after the listing goes live. My responsibility is to keep you informed, interpret the market, handle the details, and help you navigate negotiations from start to finish. When you choose an agent, you’re not just hiring someone to put your home on the MLS—you’re choosing someone who should remain engaged, communicate clearly, and work consistently to help you achieve the best possible outcome.
